MINORITY, WOMAN & VETERAN-OWNED DISASTER FIRMS PARTNER TO EDUCATE AND VACCINATE TO MARGINALIZED COMMUNITIES
Combatting Vaccine Hesitancy by establishing Equitable Vaccine Distribution Centers
Vaccine distribution in Black, Latino, and Indigenous populations, as well as rural and low-income communities is remarkably low in comparison to white and more affluent community’s numbers. To combat the existing inequities in vaccine distribution, a collective led by minority, women and veteran-owned companies has come together to offer viable solutions using an equity lens. Together, the six organizations are working to prioritize equity in COVID-19 vaccine education, awareness, and distribution.
“Too often, people of color and poor people bear the brunt of disasters. The solution provided by these companies joining forces will ensure the number of vaccinations in hard to reach, vulnerable communities will increase significantly,” Chauncia Willis, CEO of the Institute for Diversity and Inclusion in Emergency Management.
“We look like the communities we serve. The negative impacts of COVID-19 have impacted us personally and we feel a deep sense of responsibility to serve our communities,” said Princess Ousley, President and CEO of Elite Business Strategies. “Together, our companies are capable of rapidly deploying resources to support multiple states simultaneously, ensuring an equitable response to the most vulnerable communities.”
The unique strategy focuses on community, communication, and education. The approach involves creating an equitable strategy for community engagement in all aspects of messaging for vaccine distribution, ensuring all communications are produced using a lens of equity that is focused on marginalized communities, and educating and communicating the importance of vaccinations through the utilization of trusted community partners and groups. Equitable Vaccine Distribution Centers were also established with mobile and community-centered capacity to encourage equitable vaccine distribution in targeted communities.
“As low vaccination rates are largely due to deep-rooted fears and suspicions of government and the medical establishment, the collaborative provides a solution that is representative of the community from leading firms in professional services, emergency and rapid response, health equity, communication, and community outreach and education,” says Indelible Business Solutions Chairman and CEO Jerome J. Byers II.
